Increased METTLER TOLEDO Lab Presence Supports Unique Culture/Industry Demand in Puerto Rico

The effort to increase local presence began in 2005 and now, in 2007, the on-island team consists of a full-time Laboratory Sales Specialist for weighing, pH, titration, density, refractometry, and thermal analysis instrumentation, and two Field Service Technicians.

"We're able to take a more active role in ensuring that we support, protect and grow our brand in the eyes of our customers on a daily basis, as well as provide key regulatory and compliance services unique to their respective products and expertise," says Butta.

For customers, knowing that a product can be supported and serviced locally (as opposed to shipping off-island) by qualified and fully-trained METTLER TOLEDO factory sales and service representatives plays a significant role in the purchase and service provider decisions. "Puerto Rico has a unique business culture," says Service Team Manager Dave Cirullo, "The interaction between departments of different companies happens all of the time. Word spreads rapidly when you perform a good or poor job."

Although Puerto Rico is experiencing some of the slow-down felt in pharmaceuticals manufacturing, e.g.: plant losses and consolidation, the long-term outlook is positive. "The potential is there as long as the economic conditions of the Pharmaceutical industry support the objective, and Puerto Rico can enhance its competitive position with new focus on Biotech and similar sub-categories in the Pharma/Healthcare industries," says Butta.
